Coral Gables Regional Final Suspended Due to Inclement Weather
June 7, 2010
CORAL GABLES, Fla. –Monday’s Coral Gables Regional championship game between No. 1 seed Miami and No. 2 seed Texas A&M has been suspended due to inclement weather at Alex Rodriguez Park. The game will resume Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Miami ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the second with two men out and a man on first for the Aggies.
The Hurricanes (42-18) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Aggies (43-20-1) when a RBI grounder to short by Harold Martinez scored Frankie Ratcliff — who had walked to lead off the inning — from third.
With runners on second and third and two outs in the top of the second, Ratcliff was in the mix again as his single back up the middle scored two more `Canes to give Miami a 3-0 lead after two.
Texas A&M got in the action in the bottom of the second, scoring its first run on a RBI double by Kevin Gonzalez before Caleb Shofner followed that up with a RBI single. With Shofner on first and Andrew Collazo at bat with two outs on the board, rain and lightning halted play for the night.
Tuesday’s game will not be televised. It will be carried live on 90.5 WVUM, www.wqam.com and 1450 ESPN Deportes (from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. only).
Monday’s tickets will be honored at Tuesday afternoon’s game. Tickets will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. at the Hecht Athletic Center ticket office or by calling 1-800-GO-CANES. Tickets can also be purchased at the Huizenga Family Ticket Tower and Box Office at Alex Rodriguez Park Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
