CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s soccer team released its 2010 schedule on Wednesday. The Hurricanes will host nine games at Cobb Stadium, play four opponents for the first time in the history of the program, and will face 11 teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including the National Champion North Carolina Tar Heels.

Head Coach Tricia Taliaferro and the Hurricanes will face the 2009 SEC Champion Florida Gators in the season-opener in Gainesville on Aug. 20. The `Canes hosted the Gators – who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament – in last year’s season-opener, in front of a record crowd of 2,277.

Miami will remain in the state of Florida, but stay on the road as it faces Stetson, two days later on Aug. 22. The season-opening three-game road swing ends Aug. 27, when UM travels to Indiana to face the Big Ten’s Purdue Boilermakers – another NCAA team from 2009.

The Hurricanes will hold their home-opener on the final day of August, hosting cross-state foe Florida Gulf Coast at 7:30 p.m. Miami’s next two games will be played at a neutral site, against teams for the first time, in FGCU’s Tournament. The Orange and Green will open with the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sept. 3 with Kent State two days later. In 2009, the `Canes were undefeated in neutral site games.

Miami then returns to Coral Gables for four straight games, beginning with the second annual Hurricane Cup the event will start with a team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago – the West Virginia Mountaineers on Sept. 10. After facing their former BIG EAST foe, the `Canes then play host to North Dakota State, another first time opponent, on Sept. 12. The final opponent the `Canes will face for the first time will be Fordham on Sept. 17.

The homestand will conclude with Florida State in the conference opener on Sept. 26. The Seminoles will be the first of four ACC teams that Miami will face this season that advanced at least to the quarterfinals of the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

After a road contest at Clemson on Oct.1, the `Canes host Duke and Wake Forest on Oct. 7 and 10 respectively. Both squads were tournament teams a season ago, with Duke falling in the first round and Wake Forest advancing to the quarterfinals.

Miami then travels to North Carolina to face both NC State and the defending National Champion Tar Heels on Oct. 14 and 17. In 2009, Miami became the only ACC team to defeat UNC in two of its last three meetings, when Beverly Goebel netted the game’s lone goal on Oct. 25.

The final two home games of the season will be played against Virginia Tech on Oct. 21 and Virginia on Oct 24. Both teams from the state of Virginia reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2009.

The 2010 schedule will end on the road for the `Canes, as they face NCAA quarterfinalist Boston College on Oct. 28 and NCAA third round participant Maryland on the final day of October.

The ACC Tournament will be held this year in Cary, N.C., Nov. 3-7.
