Coral Gables, Fla. – The No. 16 Miami women’s tennis team is set to host Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College on Fri., Mar. 5, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Match time is set for Noon, and admission is free.

Miami (5-3, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won its last two matches, both coming against top 15 teams, and looks to keep things in the positive direction against the Eagles of Boston College (5-6, 1-1 ACC).

Boston College enters Friday’s match on a three-match Florida road swing, having split its first two at Florida Gulf Coast (W, 5-2) and No. 49 FIU (L, 7-0). In their two previous ACC matches, the Eagles claimed a 5-2 win over Maryland, and fell, 7-0, to Virginia. BC uses a duo of freshmen at the top singles spots, with Alex Kelleher at No. 1, followed by Olga Khmylev at the second position. Sophomore Katarina Gajic, one of the Eagles’ top players from a season ago, is primarily at the No. 3 singles position.

Miami owns a 16-0 advantage all-time in the series against Boston College, with the Hurricanes claiming 7-0 decisions in four of the last five meetings. The only exception was last year’s 6-1 Miami triumph in Coral Gables. The `Canes also collected a 4-0 victory from the Eagles in the 2004 BIG EAST Championships opener–that match also played in Coral Gables.

The Hurricanes are 37-10 in singles competition this year, including a 10-2 mark over the last two matches against No. 4 Georgia and No. 12 Clemson. UM has dropped just three matches at the top three singles positions all season.

Senior three-time All-American Laura Vallverdu, ranked No. 4 in the Campbell/ITA singles poll, headlines the top spot for the Hurricanes with a team-leading 18 wins, followed by junior All-American Bianca Eichkorn (No. 40) at the No. 2 position. Eichkorn is 13-4 on the year, and a perfect 8-0 in the spring.

Sophomore transfer Anna Bartenstein (No. 55) is second on the team in singles victories, staking a 17-3 record on the campaign (7-1 dual).

Following Friday’s match against Boston College, the `Canes step out of ACC play, traveling across town to face No. 49 FIU on Wed., Mar. 10 at 2 p.m.
