Nov. 30, 2009

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior punter/placekicker Matt Bosher, offensive lineman Orlando Franklin and middle linebacker Darryl Sharpton have been selected Atlantic Coast Conference football players of the week announced Monday by the ACC. Sharpton garnered the honor for the second straight week while Bosher was recognized for the second time this season.

Franklin, who made his first career start at left tackle against USF, was named Offensive Lineman of the Week. He helped Miami rack up 401 yards of total offense which was the fifth time in the last six games the `Canes have gone over 400 yards on offense. Franklin helped pave the way for a Miami rushing attack that posted 240 yards – the team’s second best rushing performance of the season. Franklin, who replaced Jason Fox, had started the previous 11 games at left guard. Against USF, he graded out at 95 percent with four pancake blocks and limited USF two-time All-American George Selvie to three assisted tackles.

Sharpton was honored as the Defensive Lineman of the Week for the second time in a row as he matched a career-high with 12 tackles in Miami’s win over USF. Sharpton also notched 12 tackles last week in the Hurricanes’ win against Duke. He also caused a fumble, which led to Miami’s second touchdown of the game and a 14-0 lead over the Bulls. Sharpton leads all Hurricanes with 91 tackles, including 55 solo stops, and seven tackles for loss this season.

Bosher’s second Specialist of the Week honor of 2009 comes after he connected on a 32-yard field goal and converted all four of his point-after-touchdown attempts in the Hurricanes’ victory against USF. His made kicks extended his streak to 12 consecutive field goals, which ranks second both for a single season and a career, and his 88 consecutive PATs, ranks third all-time in school history. Bosher also punted four times and totaled 179 yards for a 44.8 yards per punt average, and dropped two kicks inside USF’s 20-yard line.

Virginia Tech freshman running back Ryan Williams earned this week’s ACC Rookie of the Week while Wake Forest senior quarterback Riley Skinner had a career day in his final game as a Demon Deacon to earn Offensive Back of the Week honors. Boston College freshman outside linebacker Luke Kuechly (Defensive Back of the Week) rounded out the final group of ACC Players of the Week of the 2009 season.
