Hurricanes Fall to Duke in Road Contest

DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (7-7-0, 2-3-0) fell to the Duke Blue Devils (5-5-4,1-2-2) by a 4-0 score, Thursday evening at Koskinen Stadium.

The Blue Devils scored twice in just over a minute in the first half. In the 20th minute, Elisabeth Redmond scored her third goal of the season on a shot that bent into the top right corner. Just one minute and 13 seconds later, Libby Jandl scored her first goal of the season after a scramble in the box.

The Hurricanes were unable to close the gap and Duke eventually scored two more times in the second half. Marybeth Kreger scored in the 49th minute, then KayAnne Gummersall added the game’s final goal in the 65th minute.

Both Paulelett Ricks-Chamber and Julianne Rickers came off the bench to record two shots on goal for Miami, with senior captain Beverly Goebel firing a team-high five shots.

The Hurricanes will turn their attention to the No, 6 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, whom they face this Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C. at 1 p.m.
