UM Football Set to Open 2009 Fall Camp

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 2009 University of Miami football team officially reported to campus on Friday, a day before the team opens its fall camp with a Saturday morning practice at Cobb Stadium.

Friday – the first day of organized team activities – included orientation sessions, equipment pick-up and team meetings. The team will take the field for the first time together at an exclusive season ticket holder practice Saturday at 8 a.m.

Also on Saturday, head coach Randy Shannon and select players will also take part in the team’s annual preseason media day activities.

The Hurricanes will work in helmets and shorts Saturday and Sunday, shells on Monday and Tuesday before moving into full pads starting Wednesday. After Saturday’s practice at Cobb Stadium, the team will move over to the Greentree Practice Fields for the remainder of fall camp.

Miami returns six starters on offense and six on defense from a team that finished 7-6 in 2008.

The `Canes will open their 2009 schedule in Tallahassee on Monday, Sept. 7 against No. 19 Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium. The 8 p.m. contest will be nationally televised by ESPN.
