Hurricane Football Players to Perform Community Outreach

Hurricane Football Players to Perform Community Outreach

July 6, 2009

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – With participation from all players on the roster, the University of Miami football team will perform community outreach throughout Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties throughout the month of July.

“South Florida is our home,” explained Head Coach Randy Shannon. “This is a way for our players to give back to the community and it allows the football program and the athletic department to say thanks as well.”

Team members will host events for youth teams with approximately 15-20 players attending each gathering. In addition to the host teams, the events are open to youngsters up to and including the eighth grade. The outreach events will focus on football and life skills and last approximately 45 minutes at each site.

Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt added, “Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are all very supportive of and important to our athletics program. The 2009 Football Summer Tour is an opportunity for us to continue to build strong relationships in South Florida and provide a chance for children and families to meet and interact with our greatest representatives-our student-athletes.”

The Hurricanes open the 2009 season at Florida State on Monday, September 7. The first home game will be versus Georgia Tech on Thursday, September 17. For information on season tickets, please call 1-800-GO-CANES.
