Adkins Taken on Day Two of 2009 NFL Draft

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior linebacker was selected on the second day of the 2009 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday. Adkins was drafted in the sixth round as the 176th overall pick of the Atlanta Falcons.
Adkins played in 11 games during the 2008 season for the Hurricanes. He registered 20 tackles (15 solo, five assisted) while also adding six tackles for loss and four sacks. He tied for third on the team in sacks. A middle linebacker who found a role as a pass rusher on third down situations, he was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week after picking up two sacks and three tackles in the season opening win over Charleston Southern. Adkins recorded a season high four tackles twice against Wake Forest and at NC State. He tallied three tackles in the Emerald Bowl Game against California.

Adkins played in 32 career games for the Hurricanes and started five games. He finished his career with 75 career tackles (44 solo, 31 assisted), 10 tackles for loss, five sacks and one interception.
