Hurricane Football Holds First Spring Practice Tuesday

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami football team opened its 2009 spring practice schedule Tuesday with a two-hour afternoon session at the Greentree Practice Fields. The players practiced in helmets and shorts under the direction of third-year head coach Randy Shannon.

Six freshmen – DL Curtis Porter, DB Brandon McGee, RB Mike James, DL Olivier Vernon, OL Brandon Washington and OL Jermaine Johnson –  that enrolled at the University of Miami this spring joined returning players and coaches as the team began preparation for the 2009 season.

The `Canes will participate in 13 more practices leading up to the spring game at the BankUnited CanesFest at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday, March 28.

The Hurricanes will practice again on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. All practices are closed to the public this spring with the exception of a scrimmage at Traz Powell Stadium Thursday, March 12 and the spring game on March 28.
