Final Stats

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –

Missed free-throws were the difference in the game, as the much improved Hurricanes battled to the end with <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>FloridaState, who for the first time all season didn’t receive votes in the AP or the ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls.  The Hurricanes went 9-19 from the charity stripe while FSU made 17 of 24.

Albrey Grimsley had a great game statistically for Miami as she became the third UM player to record a double-double, joining Lamese James and Maurita Reid.  Grimsley reached career-highs with 21 points and 11 assists.

Reid scored just 12 points, well shy of her season average of 16.7, but she tied a season-high with eight steals.  The senior guard came into Thursday night’s game ranking fourth in the nation with 3.84 thefts per contest.

Epiphany Woodson continued her successful freshman campaign with another double-figure scoring night, as she added 14 for her team.  More importantly the point guard didn’t commit a single turnover.  Actually as a team, Miami only turned the ball over 14 times to the Seminoles’ 21.

Miami held their largest lead with 12:13 to go in the game, at eight points.  In the midst of making their 16-4 run, the Hurricane defense did not allow a FSU field goal over a 6:32 span.  However, FloridaState churned out points, mostly from Jacinta Monroe foul-shots.  Monroe finished the night with 21 points, going 7-9 from the free-throw line.

In the overtime period, Miami went just 1-7 from the field and 2-6 from the foul-line, opening the door for the visitors, who hit both of their extra period foul-shots and made three field goals.  Tanae Davis-Cain’s three-pointer with 1:49 left in OT, hurt the most, putting the Seminoles up five.

The Hurricanes will attempt to recover from another close loss and prepare for the third-ranked Terrapins, next Thursday night at the University of Maryland.
