Adkins, Harris Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami football players Spencer Adkins and Jacory Harris have earned Atlantic Coast Conference Weekly honors announced by the league office Monday.
Harris earned Rookie of the Week honors. Harris was 16-for-26 through the air for 190 yards in his first collegiate game for the Hurricane’s. He led Miami to a 52-7 win over Charleston Southern.
Atkins and North Carolina’s E.J. Wilson also earned co-Defensive Lineman of the Week honors. Atkins tallied three solo tackles, two for loss which included two sacks as the Hurricane defense held Charleston Southern to 126 total yards. Wilson had eight tackles, three for loss, in the 35-27 Tar Heel victory.
With one of the most spectacular all-purpose nights in ACC history, North Carolina’s Brandon Tate racked up 397 yards on 11 plays to propel him to ACC Specialist of the Week honors. Joining Tate as league honorees for the first week of the season are Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner, Georgia Tech offensive tackle Andrew Gardner and Virginia Tech cornerback Stephan Virgil.
Skinner earned Offensive Back of the Week honors by completing 27-of-36 passes for 220 yards. He also did not allow an interception and threw for a career-high three touchdowns in Wake’s 41-13 win over Baylor. Gardner earned Offensive Lineman of the Week honors as he helped the Yellow Jackets tally a league-best 249 yards on the ground.
Virginia Tech’s Virgil was honored as defensive back of the Week as he scored eight points on returns in Virginia Tech’s loss to ECU. Virgil returned a fumble 30 yards early in the game and later ran back a defensive PAT 90 yards for two points.

Harris started his first collegiate game and completed 16-of-26 passes for 190 yards while accounting for two touchdowns – one through the air and one on the ground — in leading Miami to a 52-7 win over Charleston Southern. The true freshman from Miami led the Hurricanes to touchdowns on four of their first five possessions. He scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 30-yard run on the seventh play of the game and finished with 212 yards of total offense.

Adkins helped a Miami defense that held Charleston Southern to 126 total yards and 49 rushing yards. Adkins tallied three solo tackles – two tackles for loss and recorded two sacks from his middle linebacker position.
