UM Football Wraps Up First Weekend of Fall Practice

UM Football Wraps Up First Weekend of Fall Practice

Aug. 3, 2008

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team held its second practice of the fall Sunday morning at the Greentree Practice Fields, wrapping up the team’s opening weekend of camp.

“Guys flew around today,” head coach Randy Shannon said. “We had an exciting practice. I thought there was going to be a little letdown after Canesfest yesterday but there wasn’t.”

For the second straight morning, the Hurricanes practiced in shorts and helmets, working approximately two-and-a-half hours. The team conducted 7-on-7 drills and spent time on a team-period that featured 11-on-11 to wrap up practice for the second straight day.

“The quarterbacks keep improving,” Shannon said. “They made some nice throws today and we didn’t throw any interceptions.

“We had a couple bad snaps from the shotgun but we’re going to fix that. Coach (Jeff) Stoutland had the guys working on it after practice, but those things tend to happen from time to time. We are improving all the time.”

The Hurricanes practiced on wet fields after rain passed through overnight. The team worked through cooler conditions Sunday morning with overcast skies and temperatures in the upper 70s moving into the lower 80s by the end of the session.

“Really nobody stood out defensively,” Shannon added. “Everybody did a great job on what they had to get done. We put in a couple of new plays on defense and they executed and did a nice job.”
