Miami (12-4, 5-2 ACC) won easily over its first unranked opponent since the Hurricanes defeated UCF, 6-1, Feb. 16 in Coral Gables. The win puts head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews just one victory away from tying the program’s all-time wins mark of 131, set by Ian Duvenhage from 1981-88.

For the 11th time in the last 12 contests, No. 20 Laura Vallverdu won the No. 1 position for UM, taking out Lana Krasnopolsky, 6-4, 6-1. No. 53 Michaela Kissell would beat Lauren Cash in the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, in what would turn out to be the only match that advanced into a third set and No. 80 Romy Farah won easily over Katharine Attwell at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1.

Bianca Eichkorn, Caren Seenauth and Claudia Wasilewski would complete the singles sweep for the Hurricanes, taking the final three spots over BC comfortably. Eichkorn nearly shutout her opponent, Alina Sullivan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, Seenauth beat Alison Wagner handily, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 and Wasilewski won efficiently over Gia Nafarrete in the sixth position, 6-2, 6-3.

The Hurricanes opened play winning two of three doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2. The 15th-ranked doubles team of Vallverdu and Farah continued their solid play with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 victory over Attwell and Sullivan and Eichkorn and Kissell took out Krasnopolsky and Nafarrete, 8-5, in the second position.

The win over the Eagles (9-8, 1-7) was also UM’s second shutout victory this year after the Hurricanes swept Florida Atlantic, 7-0, in the season-opener, Jan. 25.

The `Canes will turn around and play again Sunday morning at 10 a.m. against Maryland at the TennisCenter at College Park. UM will remain on the road next week when it wraps up its regular season with the team’s only trip to the state of North Carolina this season to face NC State Saturday, April 12 and WakeForest Sunday, April 13.
