Play Suspended Between No. 14 Miami and No. 12 UNC

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla.– With the score tied 2-2 and the final three singles matches in the third set, play was suspended between the 14th-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team and No. 12 North Carolina Sunday due to inclement weather at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
With the top three positions still up for grabs, rain moved into the Coral Gables area, forcing a stoppage of play. After over an hour of waiting for the weather to clear, it was decided upon to suspend the match with no immediate sign of the weather clearing.
Both teams are hopeful they can work out a possible date when the match can be finished prior to the ACC Tournament.
After UNC won the doubles point, senior Caren Seenauth, playing her final regular season home match as a Hurricane, tied it up with a easy 6-4, 6-1 over Sophie Grabinksi in the fifth position. No. 104 Bianca Eichkorn would give UM a short-lived 2-1 lead after beating Laura Reichert, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 before Meg Fanjoy evened the score for the second time on the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Claudia Wasilewski at No. 6.
UNC swept the doubles action, winning 8-4 at No. 1 and 9-7 in the second and third positions.
The Hurricanes will now embark on a four-match road trip over the next two weeks leading up to the ACC Tournament, April 17-20. Miami will head to BostonCollege to take on the Eagles Saturday at 10 a.m. before turning around to play at Maryland Sunday at 10 a.m. again. The `Canes final regular season road trip will be at NC State and at WakeForest, April 12-13.
