HURRICANES WRAP UP PREPARATION FOR NC STATE

Nov. 1, 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – The University of Miami football team held its final practice of the week Thursday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields. Miami will play its Homecoming game Saturday at noon against North Carolina State. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

UM head coach Randy Shannon said that a decision on the starting quarterback for Saturday could be made on Friday. “Both quarterbacks practiced today and did some good things,” he said.

Senior quarterback Kyle Wright continued to progress in practice. “He wasn’t as sore as he had been,” Shannon said. “Everyday he is getting better. We did some sprint-out stuff with him, getting him on the edges to see how he responded. First day it was his drop-back and throwing. Next day was handing it off and throwing it. Today was getting on the edges and throwing it. It was good to see how he moved around.”

Junior defensive tackle Antonio Dixon has been back in practice after missing a month with an injury. Shannon said Dixon is expected to play some against NC State. Junior safety Lovon Ponder will probably not play against NC State.

Senior wide receiver Lance Leggett is also expected to return against NC State. “He did well this week,” Shannon said. “He really caught the ball well in practice. He impressed me. He caught all the balls that were thrown to him and didn’t drop many. He’ll be in the rotation this week.”

Miami will hold a walkthrough at the Greentree Practice Fields Friday afternoon before departing for the team hotel.
