Hurricanes Fall To Georgia Tech 5-2 in ACC Action

Atlanta, G.A. – The ninth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team fell to No. 6 Georgia Tech 5-2 this afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Hurricanes fall 12-3 overall and posted their first loss in ACC play with a 3-1 record. The Yellow Jackets improve (12-4, 3-1 ACC).

Miami jumped on the board first taking two out of three doubles matches in the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. No. 24 ranked duo Audra Cohen and Caren Seenauth remained unbeaten as they defeated Amanda Craddock and Alison Silverio 9-7. Junior Gina Sabatino, who has competed at the No. 3 spot in doubles, partnered up with freshman Laura Vallverdu for the first time of the dual season. The duo came out on top to capture an 8-4 win over Kirsten Flower and Tarryn Rudman.

Singles got underway with Georgia Tech winning the first four matches of singles.

Junior Romy Farah fell to No. 99 Amanda Craddock 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot, before Gina Sabatino suffered a 6-3, 6-2 loss to No. 121 Amanda McDowell at the No. 4 position.

The Yellow Jackets posted wins at the Nos. 6 and 5 spot respectively as freshman Claudia Wasilewski loss to No. 75 Tarryn Rudman, 6-2, 6-2, followed by junior Caren Seenauth falling to No. 44 Christy Striplin, 6-4, 6-2.

Entering today’s match undefeated with 18 straight victories in singles, No. 1 ranked Audra Cohen remained unbeaten as the momentum shifted with Cohen taking on No. 7 Kristi Miller. In the No. 1 slot Cohen defeated the junior Yellow Jacket, 6-4, 6-2 to give Miami the first singles point.

In the No. 2 position, No. 38 senior Audrey Banada battled it out with No. 116 Alison Silverio. In the first set, Silverio held Banada to two games at 6-2. In the next set, Banada came back to finish n top 6-7 (8-10). Down to the third set, Silverio captured the win 1-0 (14-12) to finish the match.

The Hurricanes will continue ACC action on the road tomorrow as they take on the Tigers of Clemson University.
