Lightning And Rain Doesn't Stop Hurricanes From Practicing
Sept. 6, 2006
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Back to work in a shortened week, the Hurricanes battled lightning and rain on Wednesday afternoon but still managed to get in a day’s practice.
With lightning keeping the team from practicing outside, the offense split into different meeting rooms and the defense headed over to the Wellness Center for nearly two hours. The lightning was followed by rain, and when that all passed, the offense finally took the field for an abbreviated session of team and two-minute drills against the scout team.
The Hurricanes host Florida A&M at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Orange Bowl, only five days after playing their season opener against Florida State.
“We kind of piece-mealed the practice today,” said head coach Larry Coker. “We got some things done. It’s a very short week, so we have to get a lot done in a hurry.”
Coker said the team focused on the running game in their practice. “We have to block people. We have to run. It’s as simple as that. Against Florida State we had no running game. We have to get into a rhythm of running the football.”
The Hurricanes will practice at 3:20 p.m. Thursday at the Greentree Practice Fields.
