Hurricanes Work On Two-Minute Drill

Hurricanes Work On Two-Minute Drill

April 7, 2006

Coral Gables – The Hurricanes spent more than a half hour this afternoon working on situational drills, such as the two-minute offense.

“We worked on the two-minute (drill) before the half and the two-minute drill before the end of the game,” said head coach Larry Coker, “and guys responded pretty well. They made some plays on offense and made some plays on defense.”

Linebacker Willie Williams returned to practice after missing five sessions because of a stomach illness. “He was able to keep some food down, so that was good to see,” Coker said. “It wasn’t anything serious. He’s a little weak, but he did most everything today. He’s fine. He’ll sleep well tonight. Obviously you don’t want to miss any practice time, but it’s not like he missed two days and we have a game tomorrow. Can he recover and get back to where he needs to be? We expect him to.”

Williams commented, “I expect to play in the scrimmage tomorrow, but I’ll have to see how it goes. I’m just glad to be back and practicing again.”

Coker added that he expected wide receiver Ryan Moore to return to practice next week. Moore has missed a week with a hip injury. “He didn’t practice, but he ran,” said Coker.

The Hurricanes are now two-thirds through their spring practice, with 10 of the 15 scheduled practices completed. The team will scrimmage at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Greentree Practice Fields. The scrimmage is closed to the public. Hurricane season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at www.hurricanesports.com or by calling 1-800-GO-CANES.
