Hurricanes Ready For Saturday's Spring Game
April 8, 2005
Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – – The Miami Hurricanes concluded their spring practice and readied for Saturday’s spring game at Lockhart Stadium. More than 100 former Hurricane players watched practice as part of their annual alumni day, including Jimmy Johnson and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks.
“The guys really ran around and had fun today. I was really excited the way the guys played, especially offensively,” said head coach Larry Coker. “The skill position players really stepped it up.”
Looking ahead to the spring game, Coker said, “I told the players to have a great day tomorrow and finish it up with a great finish. Overall, I want to see our guys be as efficient as we can. I know some players will not practice tomorrow (because of injuries), but I want to see us step up and be better than we were a week ago.”
Saturday’s spring game at Lockhart Stadium will begin at 12:00 noon and will be preceded and followed by the annual CanesFest, with interactive games and an autograph session. Admission and parking are free.
The spring game will be the last opportunity for quarterbacks Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman to compete for the starting job before summer camp commences in August. “When we have a starter, I’ll name one,” Coker said. “They’ll both play with the 1s and 2s and get an equal number of reps. I would like to see them both get an opportunity to throw the football and get the ball downfield. I like what I see with both players. I think we can win with either quarterback. We may play both. I think both players can help us win”
