Miami Baseball Opens 2005 Season With Alumni Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team will open its 2005 baseball season Saturday at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Field with the annual Alumni Game. Admission is free with current and former players on hand to sign autographs.
An estimated 50 former Hurricanes are scheduled to return to Mark Light Field on Saturday night, including current Cleveland Indian Alex Cora (1994-1996) and current Tampa Devil Ray Aubrey Huff (1997-1998).
The student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM, will broadcast the game live as the public gets its first look at the 2005 Hurricanes.
Miami enters the season as the nation’s No. 2 ranked team according to Collegiate Baseball. The Hurricanes are ranked third by the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll and fifth by Baseball America.
The Atlantic Coast Conference’s 11 head coaches selected league-newcomer Miami as the top pick in the conference in 2005 with eight first place votes and a total of 118 points.
Miami will open the regular season with the FIU Golden Panthers on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Field. Former Hurricane great Jason Michaels will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch that night.
