Carrillo, Burt Earn All-America Honors from Louisville Slugger

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Cesar Carrillo and Jim Burt were named to the Louisville Slugger TPX All-America Team on Thursday afternoon with Carrillo garnering second-team honors and Burt third-team recognition.
Carrillo, a sophomore right-hander, is 9-0 on the season with a 2.58 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 90.2 innings of work. Miami is 13-0 in his starts this season and 16-0 when he appears in a game. A Chicago native, Carrillo has been the Hurricanes’ most reliable starter with a fastball that reaches the mid-90s and a sharp breaking ball.
Burt, a fifth-year senior out of Allendale, N.J., has produced a career season in 2004 with a .354 batting average, 12 home runs, 60 RBI, 58 runs scored and a .656 slugging percentage. He has started every game a first base since the beginning of the 2003 season, a span of 118 games.
Burt is quickly sailing to the top of the Miami record book with 55 career doubles, which is tied for the fourth most in school history. He ranks third in career hit by pitches, 7th in total bases with 398, ninth in RBI with 161, 10th in career home runs with 34 and 10th in runs scored with 174.
The duo will lead top-ranked Miami (44-11) into their NCAA-record 32nd consecutive postseason appearance with the Hurricanes beginning play in the Coral Gables Regional against St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Mark Light Field.
