Jim Burt Named First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami first baseman Jim Burt was named to the CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America Team on Tuesday afternoon, becoming only the second Hurricanes’ baseball player to earn first-team honors.

Burt joins Jeff Morrison who was a CoSIDA Academic All-American from 1979-1981. Earlier this year, Burt was named to the CoSIDA Academic all-district III team for the third time in his career.

Burt, an Allendale, N.J., native, was a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2003.

He received his undergraduate degree in business from the University of Miami in May of 2003. Burt finished with a 3.82 grade-point average and is now carrying a 4.0 GPA in the sports administration masters program.

Along with is work in the classroom, Burt has been a force on the field for Miami this season with a .354 batting average. He leads the Hurricanes with 12 home runs, 60 RBI, 22 doubles, 75 hits, a .656 slugging percentage and a .452 on-base percentage.

Burt has helped the Hurricanes to a No. 1 national ranking, a No. 3 national seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament and a 44-11 record. UM opens NCAA Regional play at Mark Light Field Friday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
