Giannotti Named National Hitter of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami outfielder Richard Giannotti was named National Co-Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) today for his performance during the past week.

Giannotti was instrumental in helping fourth-ranked Miami take two-of-three games from 15th-ranked Virginia. The junior switch-hitter from Plantation, Fla., battered the Cavaliers’ pitching staff for a .625 average in three games in Coral Gables. Giannotti was 5 for 8 with a double, triple, home run and six RBI.

He also drew five walks and was hit by a pitch for a .786 on-base percentage in the series. Giannotti posted a 1.375 slugging percentage against Virginia.

Since returning to the lineup on Sunday, April 11, at Florida State, Giannotti is hitting .545 with two home runs and nine RBI. During that span, he is slugging .955 with a .643 on-base percentage.

Giannotti is hitting .312 on the season with 18 RBI and four stolen bases. Santa Clara’s Nic Crosta shared the honor with Giannotti after going 8 for 13 with 10 RBI against St. Mary’s.

The Hurricanes (30-9) entertain Coastal Carolina in a three-game series starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30, at Mark Light Field. The series continues at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 1 and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 2.
