Gore Tears Left ACL

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) — University of Miami running back Frank Gore sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, while strong safety Mo Sikes suffered a sprained right knee in Thursday night’s game Hurricanes’ head coach Larry Coker announced Friday.

UM Team Physician Dr. John Uribe will perform the surgery after Gore undergoes several weeks of treatment to reduce swelling in the knee. Gore, who has rushed for 468 yards and four touchdowns this season, injured the knee during the first quarter of Miami’s win over West Virginia on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Sikes, a senior from Miami’s Monsignor Pace High School, is listed as day-to-day after undergoing an MRI Friday afternoon. He injured his right knee during the second quarter against the Mountaineers Thursday night.

“We are very happy that Mo (Sikes) will not have to undergo surgery, and he will be able to return,” Coker said. “However, we are extremely disappointed with Frank’s (Gore) diagnosis, but we know that with his determination and work ethic he will be back.”
