Football Practice Report - Friday, August 8, 2003

Aug. 8, 2003

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami football team held it’s first practice in full pads on Friday at the Greentree Practice Fields. The Hurricanes ran through full contact nine-on-nine drills during the workout session. The scheduled two-hour practice was cut short after 90 minutes due to severe thunderstorms in the area.

“For our first time out in full pads this season I think it was a good fundamental practice,” head coach Larry Coker said. “We got a lot of things accomplished today, we would have loved to finish our team drills, but I still think we got a lot of things done in the time we had.”

Coach Coker also commented on the work of the kicking unit.

“We are going to continue to work in that area,” Coker said. “We are going to constantly keep pressure on the kicker, long-snappers, and punters. We will try to give them around six punts and five or six extra points every day so they are going to continue to get better.”

The Hurricanes will hold their first two-a-day practices of the season on Saturday Aug. 9. Miami will begin with an early workout at 8:30 a.m. and continue with a 3:30 p.m. session. Practice will remain open to the public through Aug. 13.
