Miami Hosts NC State in Fifth Super Regional Appearance

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami will host ninth-ranked North Carolina State in a best of three NCAA Super Regional at Mark Light Field, beginning Saturday, June 7, at 12:05 p.m. on ESPN.

The 10th-ranked and the No. 8 national seeded Hurricanes enter the super regional with a 42-15-1 record. Miami is coming off of its 10th consecutive regional win with a 13-10 win over Florida on Sunday, June 1.

North Carolina State has a 46-16 record after winning the Wilson (N.C.) Regional that they hosted.

All of the games at the Coral Gables Super Regional will be broadcast by ESPN with Saturday and Sunday’s being a national broadcast. If a game is needed on Monday, ESPN will carry it on a regional basis. Craig Minervini and Jeff Torborg will be calling the action. The super regional can also be found on the radio at WQAM (560 AM), WNMA (1210 AM) and WVUM (90.5 FM). Sunday’s game will be carried on WAXY (790 AM) and will be joined in progress by WQAM.

Miami will send ace J.D. Cockroft to the hill in the opener. The left-hander is 11-2 on the season with a 2.20 ERA. Brandon Camardese will get the start in Sunday’s 2:35 p.m. game on ESPN. Camardese is 9-1 on the season. Vince Bongiovanni will get the call if a third game is needed on Monday. Bongiovanni is 7-4 on the year with a 3.95 ERA.

Michael Rogers, a right-hander, will start game one for the Wolfpack. He is 12-3 with a 2.64 ERA. Vern Sterry, a right-hander, will go to the mound in game two on Sunday with an 11-0 record and a 3.04 ERA. Nate Cretarolo will pitch on Monday, if needed, at 1:05 p.m.

Miami is hitting .320 as a team and scoring 8.8 runs per game this season, which ranks eighth nationally. North Carolina State is hitting .283 as a team with 75 home runs.

The Hurricanes pitching staff has a 4.33 ERA, while the Wolfpack pitching staff sports a 4.06 ERA.

Miami leads the all-time series with N.C. State, 8-4, and 2-0 in postseason action. Miami took two-of-three games from the Wolfpack the last time they played in 2000.
