Miami Maniac's Cousin To Be Introduced During Georgia Tech Series
March 25, 2003
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami announced that a distant cousin to the Miami Maniac, known as The Maniac, will be making his first ever appearance during the Saturday night game vs. Georgia Tech this weekend. Game time is set for 7 pm.
John Routh, the original Miami Maniac, first made his appearance at the University of Miami in 1983. Ron Fraser, former head baseball coach, contacted Routh about becoming the official mascot of the University of Miami baseball team. The combination of Fraser’s vision and Routh’s antics quickly made the Miami Maniac a mainstay in college baseball. The Miami Maniac even served as the official College World Series mascot for some time. In 1993, Routh moved on to pursue other ventures. From that season on, University of Miami students filled the role of the Miami Maniac. Now in the 20th year anniversary of the Original Miami Maniac’s creation, Routh plans to unveil his newest creation…The Maniac.
The Miami Maniac and his newfound distant cousin The Maniac will perform various skits together for the first time and promise to bring smiles to both young and old.
