Soccer Edges Virginia Tech, 2-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami soccer team opened BIG EAST play with a, 2-1, win over Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.
The Hurricanes snapped their three-match losing streak, improving to 4-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the BIG EAST. The Hokies fall to 0-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Miami scored first as Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.) connected on a penalty kick in the 39th minute of the match.
The Hokies tied the match one-all in the second half as Jessica Myers scored an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.
Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute on a pass from Lindsey Yach (Carrollton, Texas).
Miami outshot the Hokies 22 to 12.
Goalkeeper Rachel Elsby tallied the win for Miami making four saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Hurricanes continue BIG EAST play Friday hosting Boston College at 7 p.m.
