Hurricane Mascots Take First Place at Mascot Camp
Aug. 19, 2002
New Brunswick, NJ – (REPLACE_ME) – Sebastian The Ibis and the Miami Maniac teamed up to take 1st place at the 2002 Mascot Camp held on the campus of Rutgers University. The award was voted on by the 27 mascots in attendance. The duo beat out mascots from Universities such as Penn State, Syracuse, Connecticut, Georgetown and Boston College.
“This is a great moment for our University”, said Sebastian in written statement. “We knew we had to come out and perform at a very high level and represent our school. The Maniac and I are honored by the respect given to us by our peers, but we are not going to let it go to our heads and we know that the we have to come out and work hard everyday”.”
“It was hard to deal with the 3-a-days and the 95-degree heat, but we got it done,” stated the Maniac. “Sebastian really stepped it up a notch at camp and reminded us all what we were here for…the fans. I am really excited to watch him this season. He is really on top of his game.”
Fans can see and congratulate Sebastian at the Hurricanes home opener vs. Florida A&M in the Orange Bowl on Aug. 31 at 7 pm. Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-GO-CANES or online at REPLACE_ME.
