Scenes from Gainesville: The Diary of Danny Figueroa

May 30, 2002

It’s about 8 in the morning. For some reason, I had trouble sleeping last night. I guess it’s because this will be my first Regional tournament with the Hurricanes. We’re all meeting at about 10 am for breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll pretty much hang around the hotel until about 12:30. From there, we’ll head over to the stadium for practice.

We practiced from about 1 until 2:15 pm. It was a good workout. Coach Morris tried to keep it light. Not just with the different drills we worked on, but the overall mood. I thought that it would be very intense. I know I was. But it was good to see that everyone’s pretty loose right now. From here, we’ll be going back to the Sheridan and we’ll get to split up and choose where we want to eat. I think I saw a Steak and Shake around here somewhere.

It’s now about 5:30 pm. I’m getting ready for the team banquet. It’s being held at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. It’s supposed to be pretty nice. It will be interesting to see all the different teams in one place. We’ve played everyone in this tournament at least once before this season. Actually, a lot of the guys on the different teams are friends.

I’ll pick up the diary in the morning. Have a good evening.
