May 28, 2001
Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The No. 1-ranked University of Miami baseball team (47-12) will host Clemson (41-20) in the NCAA Coral Gables Super Regional, June 1-3, at Mark Light Stadium. Game times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, if necessary.
The Hurricanes, the top-ranked team in all four collegiate baseball polls, will be making their third consecutive NCAA Super Regional appearances since the format began in 1999.
The 2001 NCAA Super Regional marks UM’s second time hosting the event. Last season, the Hurricanes traveled to Tallahassee to play Florida State and fell two games to one. In 1999, Miami hosted Wake Forest and swept the first two games to advance to the College World Series. Overall, UM holds a 3-2 record in Super Regional play.
Miami is 19-13-1 all-time versus Clemson, including a 7-5 mark under Head Coach Jim Morris. The Tigers defeated Miami, 4-0, in the two schools’ last meeting at the ACC/Disney Baseball Blast at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in 2000. Prior to that meeting, the Hurricanes took two of three games against the Tigers during the 1999 National Championship season at Knights’ Castle in Charlotte, NC.
Tickets to the Super Regionals are as follows: $12 reserved chairback, $8 adult general admission, $6 seniors/students general admission.
