Several Hurricanes Dot NCAA Statistics

(www.hurricanesports.com) — – The NCAA statistics report on May 13 continues to list University of Miami junior shortstop Javy Rodriguez at the top of the stolen bases list with a 0.98 per-game average. Javy Rodriguez has stolen 50 bases this season to also lead the NCAA in that category as well.

Junior outfielder Marcus Nettles (40 SB), for the second consecutive week, is rated No. 5 in stolen bases with a 0.87 per-game average. Junior outfielder Mike Rodriguez (36, 0.69 per-game) checks in at No. 19 on the national stolen bases list. This past weekend, Mike Rodriguez re-wrote a 21-year-old school-record with 33 consecutive stolen bases without a caught stealing. The previous mark was 30 by Joel Green over the 1969 and 1970 seasons.

Senior pitcher Tom Farmer enters the NCAA statistics for the first time this season with his 11 victories. He is tied for 15th nationally with a .846 winning percentage. Last season, Farmer ended the season ranked among the top 50 in ERA.

Freshman closer George Huguet continues to rank among the best in saves this season. Huguet is still tied for third nationally with his 12 saves.

UM’s 41-12 record (.774) lands the Hurricanes at No. 8 in winning percentage. As a team, the Hurricanes 170 stolen bases lead the nation as well.

The Hurricanes’ pitching also makes it 2001 season debut in the team ERA column at No. 16 with a 3.58 ERA.
