Miami's Edward Reed Named To Nagurski Award Watch List

April 5, 2001

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Senior strong safety Edward Reed of the Miami Hurricanes is one of 12 players from across the nation named to the Preseason Watch List for the Mike Fox/Bronko Nagurski Award presented by the Charlotte (N.C.) Touchdown Club.

Reed, who hails from St. Rose, LA, has started 35 of 36 games since coming to Miami and was a consensus first-team All-America selection last season and led the Hurricanes with eight interceptions and had 80 tackles as a junior in 2000. Reed returned two interceptions for touchdowns in 2000 and his 12 career interceptions ranks him tied for fifth all-time at Miami for career thefts. Reed also garnered a BIG EAST best 23 pass breakups in 2000.

Reed’s inclusion on the Nagurski Award Watch List adds to a rich heritage of Miami players who have been associated with the award. Two UM players have won the Nagurski Award – defensive tackle Warren Sapp in 1994 and middle linebacker Dan Morgan in 2000.
