CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes practiced for two hours in pads and shorts Friday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields in sunny, but muggy conditions. Head coach Larry Coker complimented the wide receivers after practice, lauding the group for its progress during spring practice to this point.

“The receivers looked very good today and I’ve been really pleased with them throughout the spring,” Coker said. “That’s an area where we obviously need to get some answers this spring. The receivers have really stepped it up a notch. Daryl Jones, Ethenic Sands and Kevin Beard have looked particularly good this week.”

On the injury front, freshman defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, who has missed much of the week due to a high sprain of his left ankle, has returned to limited action. Sophomore defensive tackle Santonio Thomas sat out Friday’s practice with an unspecified injury that has hampered him most of the week. Thomas should return to action within the next few days, Coker said.

Miami completes the second week of spring practice Saturday morning with a workout that is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. All practices are closed to the public.

Spring practices climax with UM’s FOX Sports Net Canes Fest on Saturday, April 7 at the Orange Bowl. That event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a scrimmage highlighting the day starting at 10:30 a.m. That day will be a fun-filled one for Miami fans as spectators can huddle up with head coach Larry Coker for a question-and-answer session before the scrimmage at 10 a.m. Ticket buyers can take part in UM’s Select-A-Seat program, where fans pick their season ticket locations for the 2001 season, and kids can enjoy Touchdown Alley. Players will sign autographs after the scrimmage, beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. Fans also can get a tour of the Miami locker room and photos with the Heisman Trophy and National Championship trophies from the past.
