Hurricanes Break for the Holidays

Dec. 22, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Miami Hurricanes football players departed to their respective hometowns Friday for a four-day holiday break after a two-hour practice in rainy conditions wrapped up a week of preparation for their upcoming Nokia Sugar Bowl clash with the Florida Gators on January 2 in New Orleans. BIG EAST Conference champion Miami (10-1) faces Southeastern Conference champ Florida (10-2) with a national championship on the line.

“We’re done and we’ve had an excellent week of practices leading up to the break and I can’t say enough about the way the team has approached its work since returning from almost three weeks away from the practice field,” said head coach Butch Davis. “We’re really about where we need to be in our preparation at this point. And the holiday break will do everybody some good. We’ll be in a good mindset when we get to New Orleans.”

The practice marked the final team practice on the Greentree Practice Fields for 17 UM seniors. The team will regroup in New Orleans on Tuesday, December 26, with a practice there slated for 4 p.m. Central Time. That workout will be closed to the news media and the general public.
