Harsh Weather Halts Football Practice
Sept. 6, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Stormy weather brought an early end to a productive practice as the fourth-ranked Miami Hurricanes continued preparations Wednesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus for their battle with the Washington Huskies this Saturday in Seattle. ABC will televise the game to most of the nation with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. Eastern time.
“We followed the weather forecast closely and actually had a very productive day before the lightning brought it to an end,” said head coach Butch Davis. “We were able to get about 85 percent of the practice in before we had to take it inside. The rain may have helped because we ended up getting some significant work done in the rain and we’re told we may get some rain Saturday in Washington.”
Davis was referring to weather forecasts that predict overcast and cool conditions with intermittent rainfall in the Seattle area on Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s clash between the Hurricanes and Huskies marks the second meeting ever between the two teams. Washington won the previous meeting, 38-20, in 1994 at the Orange Bowl. The series is scheduled to conclude next season when the Huskies will visit Miami at the Orange Bowl.
The Hurricanes will have a short practice Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. before departing for Seattle that evening. All practices are closed to the public.
