Hurricanes Near The End Of Two-A-Days

Aug. 21, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Two 90-minute practices were the order of the day as the University of Miami Hurricanes had a productive day of workouts at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus. The team now has just one day of two-a-days remaining before game week preparations begin for the August 31 opener against McNeese State.

All phases of the game were stressed throughout the two practices, with a special emphasis on time management in the afternoon workout. “We introduced the 25-second clock to the mix in the afternoon practice to get the guys back into being aware of time management in the huddle and in alignment,” said head coach Butch Davis. “We had a few delay penalties on the offense but, more than anything, it’s just something else we needed to plug in with the opener 10 days away. Now we’re on a 10-day clock and we can see the first game is just around the corner.”

Although the end of two-a-days approaches, Davis said the team has not lacked intensity in the last couple of days. That factor is something he was particularly proud of following Monday’s morning workout.

“I’ve really been impressed with how the guys are approaching their work,” Davis said. “It would be easy for them to let up a little with the end of two-a-days coming and still being 10 days off (from the opener). But the leadership on the team has been excellent and the guys have really maintained their focus and intensity. That’s a very good signal for us.”

Two-a-day practices conclude Tuesday with a morning session scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and an evening “dress rehearsal” practice slated for 7 p.m. at the Orange Bowl. All practices are closed to the public. For ticket information for Hurricanes football, contact the UM Ticket Office at (305) 284-2263 or 1-800-GO-CANES.
