Hurricanes Enjoy Light Day Of Practice
Aug. 17, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Hurricanes, ranked 5th by Associated Press and 6th in the ESPN/USA Today preseason rankings, practiced for two hours Thursday morning at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus, then enjoyed an afternoon away from football as the afternoon practice session was cancelled.
The Hurricanes focused on goal-line situations and the kicking game for most of the practice before closing the session with some scrimmaging and conditioning drills. Head coach Butch Davis said he is pleased with the team’s progress midway through two-a-day practices.
“I think we’re clearly better in some areas, but we’ve got a long way to go,” Davis said. “We’ve still got a long ways to go with the offensive line. We’ve got some guys missing practice, people we will have to count on. We don’t have much more time to work on those positions for the opening game. We’ll take this afternoon off to decompress. Everyone’s worked hard and they all deserve an afternoon away from football before we gear up for the remainder of two-a-days.”
Two-a-day practices will continue Friday with sessions slated for 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and a scrimmage tentatively scheduled for Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Workouts are closed to the public.
