UM Newcomers Work Through First Practice
Aug. 7, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The first practice for the newcomers to the University of Miami football team was a crash course in Football 101 on the Greentree Practice Field. The group of freshmen, transfers and walk-ons practiced for almost two hours in the Florida sun in a workout that focused on fundamentals and technique.
“I was very impressed with the physical condition of the kids,” said head coach Butch Davis. “As first practices go, this was a very good one. It’s always great to get started, but I am particularly happy with the way this practice went. We’ve got a good group to work with and they’re off to a great start.”
The practice, which began at 9 a.m., was conducted on a hot and humid morning with temperatures approaching 90 degrees. The newcomers will practice again Monday afternoon at 3:30. Tuesday’s work will consist only of a morning practice, the final newcomers-only workout before two-a-days begin for the entire team Thursday morning at 8:30 at Greentree.
