FIU Eliminates Wagner With 10-1 Victory Saturday

CORAL GABLES, FL – FIU third baseman Gus Alfonso hit a grand slam homerun tohighlight a six-run first inning and junior right-hander Paul Zervas (8-1)threw 8 2/3 innings of scoreless ball as the FIU Golden Panthers eliminatedWagner College with a 10-1 win in Game 3 of the Coral Gables Regional at MarkLight Stadium Saturday.

Also starring for Florida International, right fielder Hector Nunez went 2-4with three RBI and center fielder Barry Paulk registered two hits in four atbats with a double and two runs scored.

Right fielder John Spinelli scored the lone run for Wagner. LHP SteveCoppola (5-4) took the loss.

FIU advances to play the loser of today’s Miami-FAU contest. Game time is 7p.m.
