March 10, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla — The University of Miami football team continuedspring practice this afternoon with a two and a half hour workout in helmetsand full pads at the Greentree Practice Facility on the UM campus.
Following pre-practice warm-ups, the team broke off into theirrespective position groups to work on fundamental drills. After the positionworkouts, the team went to offensive and defensive drills followed byblocking drills. The practice ended with full-squad eleven-on-eleven drills.
Head Coach Butch Davis spoke about the first day of full-contact andhis team’s work ethic.
“The first day of serious competition in pads was excellent. Thething that impresses me the most is the willingness to work and thewillingness to challenge each other. If this team continues to work and comeout every day with the goal that they are going to be a better football teamwhen they finish, than when they started, we will make great strides.”
Davis also talked about the offense and how it is coming together.
“Ken Dorsey is doing some outstanding things and I’m pleased withwhat Ethenic Sands is doing, as well. The running back situation is veryhealthy and our offensive line has been as physical and as focused for thepast three days as we’ve been in the five years that I’ve been here.”
Later, Davis also spoke about the team’s defense.
“Sheven Marshall has made tremendous strides and Chris Campbell hasplayed outstanding. Leonard Myers and Philip Buchanan were just smotheringour receivers today, and those are some pretty good receivers.”
