BIGGEST BIG EAST WIN, EVER: Today’s 55-0 win marked the largest margin ofvictory for the Hurricanes in a BIG EAST contest. Entering today, Miami’sbiggest win in a league game entering today was a 49-0 win over Syracuse onOctober 23, 1993 in the Orange Bowl….Today marks the fifth time that Miamihas shut out a BIG EAST opponent.

SHUTOUT NOTES: Today’s 55-0 shutout marked the first shutout by theHurricanes since a 45-0 blanking of Pittsburgh on September 28, 1996, 41games ago….today marked the largest shutout since a 56-0 shutout ofGeorgia Southern on September 3, 1994…today marked the third shutout ofthe Butch Davis era and the 11th shutout of the 1990’s…the largest shutoutin school history was a 62-0 win over Havana on October 27, 1928…Miami’slargest margin of victory all-time is 68 points (75-7 vs. Fordham, 1954).

PORTIS BREAKS RECORD: With a 17-yard rush on his sixth carry of the game,true freshman Clinton Portis broke the school’s single-season freshmanrushing record. The run brought Portis’ season rushing total at 597 yards.The record was previously held by James Jackson (595, 1997). Portis’ seasontotal is now 679 yards.

PORTIS- 100-YARD GAMES: For the fourth consecutive game and for the fifthtime this season, true freshman Clinton Portis rushed for over 100 yards.In just the eighth game of his career, Portis’ five 100-yard performancesalready ranks in a tie (with four others) for third-place on the UM careerchart in the category. The record for 100-yard performances in s career isheld by Edgerrin James (14, 1996-98).

PAYTON HITS PAYDIRT: Freshman running back Jarrett Payton scored the firsttouchdown of his career in the first quarter on a 16-yard run. Paytonrushed for 38 yards on four carries in the scoring drive. The 16-yard runalso marked the longest run of his career.

CAREER HIGH RUSHING GAME TOTAL FOR PAYTON: Jarrett Payton’s 87 yards todaymarks a career-high for rushing yards in a game for the true freshmantailback. Payton’s previous high for rushing yards in a game was 32 yardson nine carries vs. FAMU (September 4).

BIG HALVES: In nine of Miami’s ten games this season, the Hurricanes havescored 20 or more points in a half. Today’ s first half marks the fourth time this season that the ‘Canes havescored 28 or more points in a half. The 34-point first half total marks thesecond largest total in a half this season. The high for points scored in ahalf this season is 40 in the first half vs. Florida A&M on September 4.

BIG QUARTER: With 20 points in the second quarter, it marked the fourth timethis season that the Hurricanes have scored 20 or more points in a singlequarter. The high point total for a quarter this season is 26 points scoredin the second quarter vs. FAMU.

A CAREER FIRST CONNECTION: The fourth-quarter touchdown pass fromquarterback Zach Hart to tight end Robert Williams marked the first careertouchdown pass for Hart, the first career touchdown catch for Williams.

MOSS’ PUNT RETURN: Junior Santana Moss returned a punt 67 yards for atouchdown with 1:20 left in the first half. It marked the first punt returnfor a touchdown by a Hurricane since Duane Starks returned a punt 85 yardsfor a TD at Baylor on August 30, 1997. It marked the longest punt return inMoss’ career.

SACK ATTACK: As a team, Miami registered nine sacks today, two shy of theschool record. It marked the highest sack total by the Hurricanes sincerecording nine sacks vs. Temple on October 28, 1995. The UM record forsacks in a game is 11 (twice). The Hurricanes recorded 11 sacks vs. N.C.State on November 20, 1982 and again vs. San Diego State on November 18,1989. On the year, UM has registered 34 quarterback sacks. The schoolrecord for sacks in a season is 51 (1989).

RUMPH’S INT TOTAL: Sophomore Mike Rumph’s four interceptions this seasonmarks the most INT’s in a season by a Hurricane since Carlos Jones recordedfive interceptions in 1994.

DORSEY MAKES STARTING DEBUT: True freshman Ken Dorsey made his first careerstart today and shined with a 19-26, 194-yard, two touchdown and nointerception performance.

HIGHEST POINT TOTAL SINCE…: Today’s 55 points marked the most pointsscored by the Hurricanes since a 66-17 fina,l score over East TennesseeState on September 5, 1998.

CAREER DAY FOR FULCHER: Senior fullback Mondriel Fulcher posted anear-career receiving day. Through the first half, Fulcher has acareer-high five catches for 59 yards and one touchdown. Entering today,Fulcher’s career bests: receptions (3, three times), yards (60, BostonCollege, 1998), touchdowns (1, three times).

A CAREER FIRST FOR MERCER: Junior tight end Ivan Mercer registered a 20-yardtouchdown catch in the first quarter which marked the junior tight end’sfirst career touchdown. The touchdown grab came on Mercer’s second careerreception.
