Miami QB Honored By BIG EAST

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Quarterbacks Kenny Kelly of Miami and David Priestley of Pittsburgh have been named BIG EAST Co-Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced. West Virginia linebacker Chris Edmonds earned defensive honors, with teammate Nate Terry capturing Special Teams Player of the Week.

Kelly (Tampa, Fla.) directed Miami to the biggest comeback in BIG EAST and school history when the Hurricanes won at Boston College, 31-28. The sophomore quarterback led his team back from a 28-0 deficit with three touchdown passes in the final 17:11 of the game. On the final drive, he had a 22-yard completion to Reggie Wayne on 4th-and-17 to set up the game-winning field goal. He finished 20-of-36 for 218 yards. Over his last two games, he is 47-of-77 for 588 yards and six touchdowns with one interception.

Priestley (Los Alamitos, Calif.) passed for 375 yards and four touchdowns as Pittsburgh won at Rutgers, 38-15, on Saturday. The sophomore quarterback set career-highs in completions, attempts, yards and touchdowns in his first start since facing Bowling Green on Sept. 4. The passing yardage was a BIG EAST season-high. In his last two games, Priestley has completed 45-of-66 passes for 666 yards and five touchdowns.

Edmonds (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led West Virginia’s defense in its 20-17 victory over Temple. The junior linebacker caused two TU turnovers, intercepting one pass and forcing a fumble. He had six tackles, including five unassisted, as the Owls were held to 67 yards rushing. Edmonds also added two tackles for loss, one sack, one quarterback hurry and one pass break-up

Terry (Homestead, Fla.) had the third kickoff return for a touchdown of his career in West Virginia’s win over Temple. The senior had an 81-yard return for a score with 1:29 left in the second quarter after the Owls had taken a 14-10 lead. It was the eighth longest kickoff return for a touchdown in Mountaineer history. Terry also became WVU’s career kickoff return yardage leader with 1,377 yards. It is the fourth special teams honor of his career.
