Dan Morgan Named Award Semi-Finalist

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior linebacker Dan Morganhas been named one of 11 semi-finalists for the 1999 Butkus Award, givenannually to the nation’s best linebacker in college football. The 11semi-finalists were announced today by the Downtown Athletic Club ofOrlando, sponsor of the award for the past 15 years.

Morgan, who is also a semi-finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Award(nation’s best overall defensive player), ranks second on the team thisseason in tackles (43) and sacks (three). Last season, he led the BIG EASTConference with 150 tackles en route to being named first-team All-BIG EAST.In his career, Morgan has amassed 298 tackles and eight sacks in 27 games.

Morgan joins LaVar Arrington (Penn State), Marcus Bell (Arizona),Na’il Diggs (Ohio State), James Hall (Michigan), Dhani Jones (Michigan),Brandon Short (Penn State), Mark Simoneau (Kansas State), Barrin Simpson(Mississippi State), Jamel Smith (Virginia Tech) and Raynoch Thompson(Tennessee) as semi-finalists for the award.

The three finalists for the 1999 Butkus Award will be announced onNovember 11, with the winner being named on December 10.
