PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Pittsburgh running back Kevin Barlow has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. Miami linebacker Nate Webster has earned the defensive award, with J.R. Johnson of Syracuse capturing Special Teams Player of the Week.

Barlow (Pittsburgh, Pa.) wins offensive honors after rushing for a career-high 206 yards in Pittsburgh’s 30-23 victory over Kent on Saturday. The junior running back added two long touchdowns (61 and 57 yards), finishing with 10.3 yards per carry. Barlow was not tackled for a loss the entire game. He is the first Panther to rush for 200 yards since Billy West had 231 against Ohio University on Sept. 10, 1994.

Webster (Miami, Fla.) led the Hurricanes with 20 tackles in Miami’s 27-23 loss to No. 2 Penn State on Saturday. The junior linebacker had 14 solo stops, including four tackles for losses of 16 yards. He assisted on a quarterback sack (four yards) and added two quarterback hurries. UM’s defense held the Nittany Lions to 110 yards rushing. Webster leads the ‘Canes with 38 tackles this season.

Johnson (Cicero, N.Y.) earns Special Teams Player of the Week after his play in Syracuse’s 18-13 loss to Michigan. The sophomore linebacker had five kick coverage tackles and forced one fair catch by the Wolverines. Three of the five stops pinned the Wolverines inside their own 27-yard line. Three times, Johnson’s tackles held Michigan to no yards on its returns. Johnson has 11 tackles on special teams this season.
