Hurricanes Hold Early Morning Practice Tuesday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The eighth ranked University of Miami footballteam conducted a 90-minute workout in full pads early Tuesday morning at theGreentree Practice Facility. With the practice, the Hurricanes continuedpreparation for their matchup with No. 3 Penn State at the Orange Bowl onSeptember 18.

The workout, which began at 7:30 a.m., consisted of individualposition work followed by seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 scrimmaging. The’Canes also spent time working on special teams, their nickel package andwork within the red zone.

Head Coach Butch Davis was pleased to be able to hold a productivepractice despite the threat of inclement weather due to the threat ofHurricane Floyd.

“It was a good practice this morning,” said Davis. “The weather cooperatedand we were able to address some areas that we normally do not focus onentirely such as the nickel and red zone.”

Sophomore running back Najeh Davenport (right knee) is expected to miss theyear. There were no new injuries to report.

Miami will return to practice on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the GreentreePractice Facility. Practices are closed to the public.

The award will be presented by Burger KingFranchisee Robe St. Juste and University of Miami Athletic Director, PaulDee, during the Miami-Penn State game this Saturday.

Popovich is a senior who has maintained over a 3.43 grade point average as aBiomediacal Engineering Major, while playing strong safety for theHurricanes. In addition to his academic and athletic endeavors, Popovichalso volunteers with elementary school children and the Easter Seal Society.
