ABCA Names Jim Morris National Coach Of The Year

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami baseball head coach has beennamed National Coach of the Year and Atlantic Region Coach of the Year bythe American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Morris, who was alsoNational Coach of the Year by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, led Miami toits third national title with a perfect 4-0 record at the College WorldSeries, highlighted by a 6-5 victory over Florida State in the CWSchampionship game.
Miami’s baseball program also extended its streak of 23 consecutiveseasons ranked among the nation’s top 10 in overall attendance with aneighth place showing in 1999.
In addition, Morris also won National Coach of the Year honors in1994 by Baseball America, his first season with the Miami baseball program.He joins former Hurricanes’ head coach Ron Fraser, who was named NationalCoach of the Year in 1982 and ’85, UM’s first two national championshipseasons.
The Hurricanes became the first team in college baseball history towin every post-season game in the new 64-team championship. Miami won threestraight in the first round of regional action followed by consecutive winsover Wake Forest in the Super Regional.
The 1999 national championship, Morris’ first, came in the coach’ssixth year at Miami. In addition, Morris is the only coach in NCAA historyto take a school to the College World Series in each of his first six yearsat a program.
Morris holds an all-time record of 934-373-1 (.714), including a299-88 (.773) record at Miami. In Division I-A games only, Morris is803-332-1 (.707).
