Football Practices For Game Situations

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 12th ranked University of Miami football teamcontinued pre-season practice with a two-hour workout in shorts, helmets andshoulder pads on Saturday morning at the Greentree Practice Facility. Withthe workout, the Hurricanes continued preparation for their season openeragainst No. 9 Ohio State in the Kickoff Classic on Sunday, August 29th at2:30 p.m. at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
The Hurricanes worked on several game situations, includingred-zone, the two-minute drill and special teams. Following thepractice, Head Coach Butch Davis described the importance of Saturday’sworkout.
“The intensity was not full-speed today,” said Davis. “But weaccomplished a lot with the intent of scripting and orchestrating the actualsituations we’ll encounter in a game. I think a practice like this is veryimportant to our football team right now.”
Overall, Davis has been pleased with the team’s production throughtwo weeks of pre-season practice. With one week until UM’s season opener,the Hurricanes have now turned to direct preparation for Ohio State.
“I think we’ve had a very productive training camp,” said Davis. “Interms of the physical preparation, we’ve accomplished just about everythingwe’ve set out to do. We’ve had two days of preparation for Ohio State andwe’re starting to implement some of the aspects of the gameplan.”
Cornerback Delvin Brown (left ankle) missed practice and isday-to-day. There were no other significant injuries to report. Miami will not practice tomorrow before returning to practice on Monday at2:30 p.m. at the Greentree Practice Facility. Practices are closed to thepublic.
