Baseball Skipper Named National Coach of Year

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Head Baseball CoachJim Morris has been named National Coach of the Year by CollegiateBaseballnewspaper. Morris led Miami to its third national title witha perfect 4-0record in the College World Series highlighted by a 6-5 victory overin-state rival Florida State in the CWS championship game.
It is the second time Morris has been named National Coachof the Year by a major baseball publication. Morris wasnamed BaseballAmerica’s National Coach of the Year in 1994, his first season at Miami.Morris joins former Hurricane Coach Ron Fraser who was named the CollegiateBaseball National Coach of the Year in 1982 and 1985, UM’s first twonational championship seasons.
The Hurricanes became the first team in college baseballhistory to win every post-season game in the new 64-team championship.Miamiwon three straight in the first round of regional action followed byconsecutive wins over Wake Forest in the Super Regional.
The 1999 national championship, Morris’ first, came in the coach’ssixthyear at Miami. In addition, Morris is the only coach in NCAA historyto takea school to the College World Series in each of his first six yearsat aprogram.
Morris holds an all-time record of 934-373-1 (.714), including a 299-88(.773) record at Miami. In Division I games only, Morris is 803-332-1(.707)
