No. 16/17 Hurricanes Face Barry in Exhibition Play Saturday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 16/17 University of Miami men’s basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Nov. 8, in an exhibition contest versus Barry University. Miami’s women’s team opens play versus Barry’s women in game one of the basketball doubleheader at 3 p.m. at the BankUnited Center, followed by the men’s game at 5:30 p.m.

It will be the final exhibition game for the Hurricanes, who are slated to open the regular season at home just one week later versus Florida Southern on Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Miami knocked off visiting Florida Memorial, 71-43, in its first exhibition game on Nov. 1, as four Hurricanes scored in double figures. Junior transfer Cyrus McGowan scored 12 points in his debut and Dwayne Collins added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. James Dewsand Jimmy Graham contributed 10 points apiece, with Graham hitting all five of his field goal attempts. Jack McClintondished out a team-high six assists and added two blocks.

The Hurricanes are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, in which they crowned their first First Team All-ACC honoree in McClinton and went 23-11, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Miami was picked to finish fourth in the ACC in 2008-09 in the preseason media poll.

Barry comes off a 10-20 season and returns all five starters, including its top-three scorers and rebounders. The Buccaneers advanced to the NCAA Division II South Regional just two seasons ago in 2007.
